Clearly it’s not just for fitness though. It’s about bedding new players in, establishing your best 11, practicing team shape in a game situation, formation changes, all sorts.

I realise you were just being flippant but there are a multitude of reasons for friendlies.

Phil is right that you can’t judge how a team will perform over the course of a season on the basis of a few friendlies, but they will offer an insight into style of play, and individual player attributes.
