Your bang on.

I remember the police escort from the train. And it felt menacing before the match. I don't remember after. But there were a lot of drunk and happy people on that sleeper special train back to Wrexham that night.

And yep we took out newcastle and Bristol city that year. As Shankly said "the greatest third division side he had ever seen." No wonder he liked to turn up and give the pre meal pep talks to the players.

Like many on this thread I was on the kop. I didn't see any fighting I must have been lucky. However it was mayhem outside. No queuing just madness. I did however witness effective crowd control policing. There were two police each on a horse trying to marshal the turnstile(s) A massive jock just pushed through the mob with a (ticket) in his hand. One of the police smacked him around the head and said to him "This is the second time you have tried to get in with a piece of plain card. If you come back again I will hit you harder." Or words to that effect. I seem to remember the fog coming down so we could not see the goal where jordan handled the ball to win a penalty. I also remember the jocks around me and my mates being astonished by how well Micky Thomas played. They kept saying "who the F*** is he?" I also remember a well known Scot (it might have been Dennis Law) saying that the better team on the night lost the game.

The most dangerous part of the Kop was the right hand top corner where a few Welsh fans were cornered with bottles flying. One I believe lost an eye! The only time I feared for my life in a football match! After the match, in a pub on the outskirts of the city, some Liverpool fans said to us, 'You were robbed lads!'

The only time the scousers ever had my wallet was at Stanley Dock Market, Bootle circa 1990s. Fortunately, I had already spent my last £5 on a Charlie Lansborough cassette! The empty wallet probably ended up somewhere in the dock! NB Bootle is a stronghold for Everton fans!
