Was there a pit head at Pandy?

This was pre-Gresford, so Pandy would be my guess. I am sure we have some more knowledgeable folk on here who could confirm.
The mentioned 'giant' in the film footage was a big chap. Amazing how many were wearing trilbies as well as those in flat-caps.

Thanks ES.
Jeez that's a tall guy, Halfthor Jones maybe. The Chimney could possibly be the Cambrian Iron works, which was just on the other side of the railway station. |

Re: The massive Wrexham AFC history thread (The sad case of a founding members and player of Wrexham
In reference to other thread (which is now closed) relating to the old gasworks at Rivulet Road.
Potential New Kop by Mar-24 The first gas holder was built at the original gas works in 1827, but this holder and the entire gas works were abandoned after two chimneys were blown down during a hurricane in early January 1839. A new group of shareholders then formed The Wrexham Gas&Coke Company, which bought out the original company for £705 in 1839, before relocating their business a short distance away to Willow Road, near to the banks of the Gwenfro. The new gasworks at Willow road was built at a cost of £507. A new gas holder was then built on the new site in 1840, but the residue tank of this holder was found to be leaking and so it was repaired in the latter part of the decade. Another gasometer with a storage capacity of 70,000 cubic feet was built in 1861, and so the earlier (1840) gasometer was decommissioned and demolished. At this time, the company provided gas to a number of residences and businesses as well as for 60 street lamps in the town on a network that extended up to 3 miles from gasworks, at its furthest point. Demand soon increased and a new telescopic gas holder was built in 1871. This followed the introduction of a new Gas Bill in 1870, which incorporated the gas company and gave the company the rights to buy up new land and build the structures needed for the production of gas. The gas works were again moved a short distance and so this gas holder was built at the Greenbank end of Rivulet Road. The holder was erected in a 20-foot-deep, brick-built tank, faced with stone, which was 61 feet and six inches in diameter. This gasometer had a storage capacity of 100,000 cubic feet. As demand continued to increase, the gas company built another gasholder at the Greenbank end of the site in 1885, leaving just the 1861 gas holder at the Salop Road end of the site. https://places.library.wales/search/...e-layers_92=on Last edited by eastsussex; 18th October 2021 at 16.36:59.. |
